Select tool
Pick walls, fixtures, openings, and other entities — single, group, or by dragging a box around them.
Select is the default tool. Use it to pick walls, fixtures, openings, guides, annotations, and tape dimensions so you can edit, delete, drag, or duplicate them. It's the tool you spend most of your time in when you're not actively drawing.
Activate the tool
- Desktop: click the Select icon at the top of the left toolbar, or press
SorV. - Mobile: the Select tool is active by default. Tap the Select icon (top of the toolbar) to return to it from any other tool.
Single selection
Click — or tap, on mobile — directly on the entity you want to pick. The entity highlights, and its properties open in the right-rail entity panel on desktop or behind the entity info button on mobile.
Clicking empty canvas deselects whatever was previously selected.
Multi-selection
Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on macOS) and click to add an entity to the current selection. Click an already-selected entity with Ctrl held to peel it back out. The selection set can mix walls, openings, fixtures, guides, annotations, and tape dims — actions like delete and duplicate work across all of them.
Press Ctrl+A to select every entity on the current room in one shot. Combined with Delete, that's the fastest way to clear a room and start fresh.
Rectangle select (desktop only)
On desktop, click and drag from empty canvas to draw a selection rectangle. Each entity type joins the selection when the relevant part of it sits inside the rectangle:
- Walls and tape dims join when either endpoint is inside the rectangle.
- Openings (doors and windows) join when the centre of the opening is inside.
- Fixtures and guides join when their placement position is inside.
- Annotations join when their position OR a segment-dim endpoint is inside.
Rectangle select is not available on mobile — single-finger drag on mobile always pans the canvas. See Move tool (mobile) for the mobile path to drag-move objects.
Drag to move (desktop only)
Once an entity is selected on desktop, clicking and dragging it moves it. If multiple entities are selected and you drag one of them, the whole group moves together as one undo step. Mobile Select never drag-moves — it only pans the canvas, which keeps the tap-to-select interaction unambiguous.
Deselect
- Click empty canvas to deselect.
- Press
Escto deselect.
Tips
- The Select tool is
SorV— either key works.Vis muscle-memory carried over from other drafting and design tools. Ctrl+AthenDeleteis the fastest way to clear a room. The whole delete is one undo step, soCtrl+Zbrings everything back together.- Right-click an entity (long-press on mobile) for the canvas context menu — Duplicate, Delete, and type-specific actions live there.
- When you've got multiple entities selected and right-click one of them, the menu leads with Duplicate Selection (N items) so the whole group copies in one step.
