Settings Overview

Tour of the Settings panel - where it lives, what each section covers, and how settings persist independently for Customer mode and Contractor mode.

Settings is where you configure how VisionPlan behaves: units, snapping, autosave, the visible-layer toggles, and which app mode you're working in. It's organized into seven sections, and your choices persist across sessions.

Opening Settings

The gear icon lives in the top app bar (right side, next to the theme toggle) on both desktop and mobile. Tap or click it to open the Settings dialog.

The panel opens as an overlay on top of the editor. Closing it returns you exactly where you were.

What each section covers

Viewing - the simple show / hide toggles for canvas decorations.

  • Show grid - background grid lines
  • Show dimensions - any saved tape dimensions on the canvas
  • Show guides - pin guides and construction lines
  • Show room labels - the room name floating in the middle of each room
  • Show wall nodes - the small handles at wall endpoints (useful while drawing, distracting once a plan is settled)

These are on / off toggles. Flip them anytime - changes are immediate and don't affect the underlying plan.

Units & Precision - imperial vs metric, dimension format, and fraction rounding. See Units and dimension format.

Snapping - master toggle, sensitivity, per-target list, per-tool overrides. See Snapping.

Inferences - the dashed alignment guides that appear while you draw. See Inferences and alignment guides.

Drawing - settings that affect the drawing tools.

  • Default Wall Thickness - the thickness that new walls draw at. Default: 4.5 inches (about 114 mm). Changing this affects new walls only - walls already in the plan keep the thickness they were drawn at. Display follows the Units setting (imperial shows inches, metric shows millimeters).

Autosave - enable / disable autosave and tune the interval. See Autosave.

App Mode - switch between Customer and Contractor mode. See App mode and network lock.

Per-mode persistence

This is the part most users miss the first time.

Customer mode and Contractor mode each keep their own complete settings. If you set Snap Sensitivity to 1.5x in Customer mode and then switch to Contractor mode, Contractor mode is still at whatever sensitivity you last had it at - not 1.5x.

The same applies to:

  • Units (imperial / metric)
  • Dimension format
  • Fraction precision
  • All Viewing toggles
  • All Snapping settings
  • All Inference settings
  • Default wall thickness
  • Autosave on / off and interval

When you switch modes, VisionPlan saves the outgoing mode's settings and loads the incoming mode's. You don't need to manually save - it happens at the moment of the switch.

The theme (Light / Dark) is the one exception - it's a single app-wide preference, not per-mode. See Theme: Light and Dark.

Where Settings is not

A few controls live outside the Settings panel because they're better fit elsewhere:

  • Theme (Light / Dark) - top app bar. See Theme.
  • My Info / My Business Info - opened from the project list screen's top bar (these aren't editor preferences, they're profile data).
  • Project name, room list, project metadata - the Project Edit panel.
  • Visible Fields per fixture type, Schedule columns - the Print dialog (Customer / Contractor labels apply there).

If you can't find a setting, check those four spots before assuming it doesn't exist.

Resetting to defaults

There is no global "reset settings" button in v1. To revert a single setting, change it back manually.
